Resizing a Boot Camp partition. More expansive partition; and then moving the data from the imaged partition to the new one with WinClone. It’s completely cool to be able to copy files. Sep 17, 2007 shortcut files from windows to os lion bootcamp Hi, I am running both OSX Lion and Windows 7 on my mac machine through boot camp. I need to know how to create a short cut to my files so i can save them in one place but read/write on both sides of the partition (windows and mac). Jan 03, 2008 To move files, you actually just copy them. Open the NTFS drive, navigate to wherever you like, then drag copy files from the NTFS drive to your MacOSX drive - to some folder like 'Documents'. You can't write to the NTFS drive from MacOSX, but you can read. If the files are large, emailing the files to yourself may not work either. One Easy way to transfer files from Boot Camp to OS X. But supposedly your Mac OS X. Nov 18, 2008  Since iDefrag did not work, you may have some other issues preventing the moving of filesfolders giving you clear space to create a Boot Camp partition. One thing I didn't notice before is that your hard drive is almost full. That will adversely effect the way iDefrag can move files. Important: If you’re partitioning your internal physical disk because you want to install Windows, use Boot Camp Assistant instead. Do not use Disk Utility to remove a partition that was created using Boot Camp Assistant. Instead, use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition from your Mac. i find ntfs drivers like those from macfuse more convenient [http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/]
(though they don't work for osx 64bit)
Dropbox can be a useful app for some other stuff nevertheless..

Yeah, I was about to say - My boot camp partition mounts just like any other drive on my mac. Create something in windows, and it is immediately available to my mac - don't even need to copy it. Not that I've used it in quite a while.

One Easy way to transfer files from Boot Camp to OS X

Yeah there are other ways, but this is probably the easiest way! Dropbox is getting to be an essential utility for virtually everything on the Mac..

I love DropBox, but I wouldn't call it the easiest way to transfer something between partitions of your own computer. It assumes you have the bandwidth and connectivity to pull off large file transfers rapidly, something we can't assume about many use cases. Using MacFuse to mount an NTFS BootCamp partition is easier in the long run.

I use the free service Mesh to do that; a desginated folder or set of folders are syncronized to 5Gb of online storage and any number of Macs and PCs that you want. You can access the files from a web brower too,

I find i need to very occationally restart the client on the mac, but overall it means I can get my files no matter what OS I amon and even if i'm away from my Mac or PC.

Having just had a quick look at Dropbox i have to agree. I just had come across Mesh first.

Looks like (from the web page - I didn't actually try the product) Mesh has some desirable features like being able to sync any folder you want, not just one dropbox folder on your drive, but I accomplish this in Dropbox (on the Mac) by creating symbolic links that point to folders on my Dropbox (ex. if I have a web page in a folder on Dropbox and I create a symlink in my ~/Sites/ folder, then I can serve the webpage from my Mac and still have it sync over Dropbox.) Dunno if either one is necessarily better but sounds like Dropbox may be more bug free (at least on the Mac) as I never have to restart it or even touch the program itself.

Why not just use ( as I do ) Apple's iDisk to transfer anything back and forth between OSX and Windows !!!???

One Easy way to transfer files from Boot Camp to OS X

Mostly because iDisk costs money. DropBox does not.

iDisk has also always been excruciatingly slow for me (and I've never even tried it on a PC). But as others are saying, I don't know why you'd need to copy the files anywhere.. You should always have at least read-only access to your Boot Camp partition from OS X..

I just drop stuff in /Users/Shared.

do you have write-rights to that folder when in windows? (without any other drivers/software installed)
otherwise: just boot os-x and browse the mounted windows volume . why to use internet to copy files?!?

Snow Leopard has native NTFS read-write support, without MacFuse. It's disabled by default, but I enabled it a while ago. Google is your friend for finding the terminal commands.

Just remember, as with most features that Apple disables by default, this may not be 100% safe and so if your Windows data is critical, you may not want to enable this if you don't need to.

One Easy way to transfer files from Boot Camp to OS X

There's a big difference between a feature that is not enabled by default, and what you're citing as a 'disabled, potentially unstable add-on'
There are plenty of features that are not enabled by default, and by no means does that mean that Apple released them unstable.
Especially with protocols, the implementation is very well defined. It's binary; it either works or it doesn't. In this case, it does.

The protocol may be well-defined, but that says nothing about the implementation being complete. There are many edge cases to be considered and tested. The essential feature set may work well now, but who knows what might happen if you transfer files with unusual file sizes, types of metadata, or file names? It's certainly not binary.

History (your experience) does not disprove potential. NTFS support in Mac OS X is potentially unstable, and everkleer80 is absolutely right in saying 'this may not be 100% safe'.

Suggesting the option is fine, but I think including such a disclaimer is necessary. It's disabled for a reason (whether for unresolved bugs or licensing issues or whatnot) and other users may not understand or may not be willing to take the same risk as you.

One Easy way to transfer files from Boot Camp to OS X

I'm not saying I wouldn't use it, I'm just saying it's probably not supported (I'm sorry for the comment if it is) - sorta like the disabled feature of using TimeMachine with 'unsupported' drives - and so I wouldn't rely on it for storing my only copy of sensitive data. (I think I have been burned before by copying a file to another drive then deleting it off the original, only to find out that the copy somehow got corrupted - although this was a long time ago and wasn't even on a Mac.)

One Easy way to transfer files from Boot Camp to OS X

A simple solution to copy OS-X to/from Windows is to have a separate FAT32 partition that is read/write enabled for both systems. Files can be freely shared and there is no possibility of mucking up your NTFS partition used by BootCamp.

One Easy way to transfer files from Boot Camp to OS X

Are you for some reason unable to see your Boot Camp partition from OS X? If so, check if it's in disk utility and just didn't mount for some reason. You should always be able to see your Boot Camp partition in OS X (although it may be read only depending on the file system and the active drivers) and I think THAT is the easiest way to copy from Windows to OS X. And I haven't used Boot Camp since upgrading to Snow Leopard, but supposedly your Mac OS X partition will now mount read-only in Boot Camp now for copying the other way.

Mac Os Versions

If you formatted your Boot Camp partition as FAT32 instead of NTFS, you can already read and write to it in Finder, just like any other volume. You don't even need to move the files: just work with them in place.
Even if you formatted your Boot Camp partition as NTFS, Finder can read your Boot Camp partition directly, as noted by others above. To move a Windows file to your Mac partition, just open your Boot Camp partition in Finder, navigate to the file you want, and copy it to the desired destination.
There is no need for third party internet based file syncing tools like DropBox to do this sort of thing.

Are you people INSANE? Put personal identity information on a server over which you have no control? Given time, you can be CERTAIN that some Dropbox employee is going to look at ALL of your stuff..

One Easy way to transfer files from Boot Camp to OS X

Just make sure you don't email anyone at any time, make a facebook, touch the internet, or, just to be safe- burn all the electronics in your home to make sure no one's watching.
And because some dropbox employee is just DYING to read everyone's random crap.
Granted, you shouldn't exactly be putting bank statements there, but just use common sense, the same way you shouldn't put anything in an email you wouldn't put on a billboard.

If you're looking to install Windows on your Mac, Boot Camp is the best way to go. Whether it's for a great gaming experience or you just want to try out Windows 10 on Apple's svelte hardware, here's how to get it all set up.

What you'll need before you install Windows 10 on your Mac

Before starting anything else, be sure you have a Mac that supports Windows 10. Straight from Apple, these are the compatible models:

  • MacBook Pro (2012 and later)
  • MacBook Air (2012 and later)
  • MacBook (2015 and later)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • iMac (2012 and later)*
  • Mac mini (2012 and later)
  • Mac mini Server (Late 2012)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013)

If you own an iMac with 3TB or more, check out this Apple Support document for more information on installing Windows 10 on your machine through Boot Camp.

Do you have a Mac that can run Windows 10? Good! Make sure you have at least 64GB of free space on your hard drive for the Windows installation. During the installation process, you can set the Windows partition to whatever size you want, as long as the drive has enough storage.

Finally, update your Mac's OS to ensure there are no compatibility problems. You'll also want to perform a backup of your Mac in the (rare) case that something goes wrong.

How to download the Windows 10 ISO file

To start, we need to grab a Windows 10 ISO file from the Microsoft website. You can download it straight to your internal hard drive.

  1. Navigate to the Microsoft Windows 10 ISO download page.
  2. Click the dropdown menu below Select edition.
  3. Click Windows 10 in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update section. You can download the Creators Update through Windows once it is installed.

  4. Click Confirm.
  5. Click the dropdown menu below Select the product language.

  6. Click your language of choice.
  7. Click Confirm.

  8. Click 64-bit Download.
  9. Click Save. The ISO file will now be downloaded.

Once the file has finished downloading, continue on to the next set of steps.

How to install Windows 10 with Boot Camp

Once you've downloaded a Windows 10 ISO, you can complete the following steps.

Move Large File From Mac Os To Boot Camp Partitions

  1. Launch Boot Camp Assistant from the Utilities folder in Applications.
  2. Click Continue. Boot Camp should automatically locate the ISO file on your system.

  3. Click and drag the slider in the partition section. It will be set to 48GB by default, but you can add as much storage as you want within the limits of the drive.
  4. Click Install. Windows support software will now be downloaded.

  5. Type your password.
  6. Click OK. Your Mac will restart and you will see the Windows 10 setup screen.

  7. Choose your language.
  8. Click Install Now.
  9. Type your product key or click I don't have a key. You can enter it after the installation.
  10. Click either Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Pro based on your preference.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Custom: Install Windows Only.
  13. Click Drive 0 Partition X: BOOTCAMP. Do not choose anything else.
  14. Click Next. Windows 10 will now be installed. Your Mac will restart several times during the process.
  15. Click Use Express Settings or Customize Your Installation when the Windows 10 setup screen appears. In this case, we use express settings, as all can be changed after the installation.
  16. Type a username. You can also add a password.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Choose to use or not to use Cortana.

Windows 10 will now boot fully, and you'll be able to use Windows normally.

How to install Boot Camp software on your Windows 10 partition

When Windows 10 loads for the first time on your Mac, a Boot Camp software installer will automatically pop up.

  1. Click Install.
  2. Click I accept the terms in the license agreement.
  3. Click Install.
  4. Click Finish when the installation is complete.

This is an important process, as it installs a bunch of drivers and software that will help make your Windows 10 experience as good as possible on your Mac.

How to return to macOS from Windows 10

One of the best parts of Boot Camp is how easy it is to switch back and forth between operating systems.

  1. Click the Show hidden icons button in the Windows 10 taskbar.
  2. Click the Boot Camp button.
  3. Click Restart in OS X.

Your Mac will now restart, and you'll be brought right back to macOS. To get back to Windows 10, and indeed another way to switch from Windows 10 to macOS, is to restart your Mac and hold down the Option key on your keyboard until a boot menu appears. From here, you can choose which OS to load.

Updating Windows 10 and more

Now that you have Windows 10 installed on your Mac, you can update it to the Creators Update.

The easiest way to do so is to use Windows Update.

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Click the Settings button. It looks like a gear.

  3. Click Update & security.
  4. Download cooking academy 2 full version free. Click Check for updates.

The Creators Update should begin downloading and will install. Follow the steps on screen, and you'll be up to date in no time.
